|Description:||I have had exactly the same idea, however, there are some major hardware/price problems to overcome:
1. if you are gonna be able to upload entire movies (say compressed using divx) to someone's pc, then they will almost certainly need to have some sort of cable/dsl/broadband connection. most people dont have this (depending on what part of the world this idea is implemented in).
2. even if they did, then you run into the problem of having servers that have monstrous amounts of storage to house the movies. We could be looking at many terabytes.
3. you would need to pay for extreme bandwidth. Perhaps on MicroSoft proportions. this will cost a fortune. Imagine if you are successful, and you have 50 people in one night, at the same time downloading a move from you. you would need the capacity to upload the movie at around 50KB/s. 50x50KB/s=2500KB/s (19.5MBit/s). This internet connection would cost an absolute fortune.
4. add the cost of getting a license to "rent out" the movies you have in your database and we are talking huge costs. Possibly US$10000s per month.
Personally I just cant see us getting enough customers to pay us US$10000s per month, to bring us into profit.
